Great Fountain Geyser 2013

Great Fountain Geyser Great Fountain Geyser shortly after an eruption on a late afternoon of thunderstorms during a mid-September visit to Yellowstone National Park. The geyser is one of the most popular for photographers wanting to catch inspiring sunset photos and is found along the Firehole Lake Drive between Madison Junction and Old Faithful. The vent itself is in the center of a large terraced pool with several bands that provide interesting reflections of the sky and sunsets. Adding drama to the photo is the large cloud with the drooping pouch-like structures on the underside. The cloud probably is the remains of a cumulonimbus cloud or thunderhead that drifted over the area following a thunderstorm. Kepler Cascades Base

The base or bottom portion of the Kepler Cascades on the Firehole River. Here, the Firehole River drops approximately 150 feet as it plunges down a series of drop offs forming several waterfalls, the highest of which is about 50 feet. The Kepler Cascades are located about 1.5 to 2 miles southwest of Old Faithful and are accessed via a parking area off the section of the Old Faithful to West Thumb section of the Grand Loop highway, or, US 191.

Snake River at Shoshone Falls Park

The Snake River and a portion of Shoshone Falls as seen from Shoshone Falls Park in the city of Twin Falls, Idaho. The falls, much larger than what is seen here, is roughly 212 feet high and approximately 900 feet wide. Shoshone Falls Park offers splendid views of the entire falls as well as the Snake River. The nominal admission of $3.00 per car is charged from March 30th through September of each year.

North Cascades Highway at Hairpin Curve

The North Cascades Highway as seen from the upper side of Hairpin Curve at a spot below Liberty Bell Mountain. A portion of Cutthroat Ridge can be seen on the left. Kangaroo Ridge, Snagtooth Ridge and Silverstar Mountain are to the right of the highway. The highway is closed in winter and the Hairpin Curve is subject to heavy avalanches coming off Liberty Bell Mountain, sometimes covering the highway with as much as 60 feet of snow .

Upper Mountainside Waterfall

The Upper Mountainside Waterfall pouring into the Upper Mountainside Pond is one of several features of a section of Seattle’s Kubota Garden called “The Mountainside”. The Mountainside was built by the Kubota family in celebration of the 1962 World’s Fair held in Seattle. With its waterfalls and ponds The Mountainside offers the visitor a minature walk into the mountains.

Red Bridge and Weeping Maple

The First Necklace Pond provides a good view of the Moon Bridge with the Weeping Red Japanese Maple in the foreground. Garden bridges such as this provide more than just a means for crossing a stream or stepping onto an island. They also give the visitor a place to pause and enjoy views of the garden such as a waterfall, reflections on water, fish in a pond, sun beams filtering through trees or the various colors and hues of the many plants and their foliage.
